Message from Pastor Andrew Conard,
It has been incredible to hear the stories and see the pictures in response to The Generosity Challenge of the last several weeks! I hope you are finding the sermon series to be thoughtful and encouraging as you consider what it means to be born in the image of a loving and generous God.
On Sunday, November 10, the final Sunday of the series, we are inviting those who call Susanna Wesley their church home to return an Annual Giving Commitment Card for 2020.
I have found that generosity requires planning, goal setting, and budgeting. Filling out an Annual Giving Commitment Card is a part of that process and can be a spiritual practice. Please take some time to pray and talk about your income and expenses and consider what percentage of your income God is calling you to give in the year ahead.
The biblical model for generosity is the tithe, which is an offering of 10% of your income to God. You may already be giving at this level or beyond. You may be in a situation where giving 10% of your income to the church is not financially possible in the year ahead. Wherever you are in your giving, I invite you to calculate the percent of your income that you currently give to God’s work through our church. Then, consider The Generosity Challenge of raising the amount that you offer by 1% for 2020.
Many families prioritize Susanna Wesley in their regular giving. This faithfulness allows us to maximize the impact of many life-changing ministries. Your giving helps us connect people to a loving God. Would you prayerfully consider setting up a recurring gift by bank draft this year so that your donation can be there even when you are not able to be in worship? Starting in January, there will be giving cards in the pew backs—people who provide for the church by bank draft can place the giving cards in the offering plate to represent their giving to the church.
Please pray about your giving and consider The Generosity Challenge for 2020. Complete your Annual Giving Commitment card, place it in the envelope, and bring it with you to worship on Sunday, November 10. Most of all, thank you for all you do to support God’s work through Susanna Wesley United Methodist Church. Your generosity makes it possible for us to continue building a diverse community of faith where our neighbors see God’s love in action!
Grace and peace,
Andrew Conard, Preacher
